Symantec Enterprise Vault Awarded Editor's Choice
Windows IT Pro
Magazine Cites the Product’s Depth of Features and Ease of Use as Reasons
for the Award
CUPERTINO, Calif. – J Symantec Corp. today announced that its
Enterprise Vault™ e-mail and content archiving software has earned WINDOWS
IT PRO magazine’s Editor’s Choice award. The publication’s Products and
Reviews department tested several e-mail archiving software products
compatible with Microsoft Exchange.
According to WINDOWS IT PRO Product
Reviewer Jason Sherry, an estimated 83 percent of an organization’s
communications are electronic, with a vast majority going through its e-mail
system. Additionally, regulations require organizations across a number of
vertical industries to securely retain e-mail records and be able to produce
specific messages on demand. Sherry recommends Microsoft Exchange users
consider implementing an e-mail archiving software product to help reduce
the costs of Exchange management and better meet their needs for legal and
regulatory compliance.
“(I paid) special attention to (the
products’) ability to provide subpoenaed message data and address regulatory
requirements,” wrote Sherry. “I also looked at (their) ability to reduce
individual mailbox size and reduce server and administrative overhead by
removing and archiving messages and attachments to a location outside the
IS. Enterprise Vault has many user- and administrator-friendly features
(including) excellent support for archiving from multiple data sources,
seamless offline support, excellent support for PST archiving and removal…
and its completely seamless access to archived messages... Enterprise Vault
should be high on the list of e-mail archiving products to look at for
medium to large organizations.”
Sherry tested the base product,
Enterprise Vault 6.0, and the following modules: Microsoft Exchange Mailbox
Archiving, PST Migrator, Exchange Public Folder Archiving and Offline
Vault. Other modules include Exchange Journal Archiving, SharePoint
Archiving, File System Archiving, Compliance Accelerator and Discovery
Accelerator. Enterprise Vault is also available to Lotus Domino and SMTP
messaging system users.
“While e-mail remains the primary
communications tool for our customers, many are adopting other forms of
electronic communication and collaboration, so we have developed additional
capabilities within Enterprise Vault to enable archiving of instant
messages, Microsoft Windows and Network Appliance file systems and Microsoft
SharePoint documents,” said Francis deSouza, vice president of Enterprise
Messaging Management solutions, Symantec. “We continue to build on the
notion of Enterprise Vault as an Intelligent Archiving platform by providing
open APIs to allow our customers and partners to expand and leverage the
technology. This enables organizations to improve their capabilities to
understand, analyze, and classify data making archiving more efficient and
cost-effective.”
