Teralyte
– Finally an Alternative to Tape Backup
Idealstor is a complete backup system with ejectable
inexpensive IDE ATA or Serial ATA disks which are used for backup. Idealstor
uses disks like tape, giving the bes
t of both the technologies; Idealstor
offers the speed and reliability of disk and the portability of tape.
Idealstor offers a backup platform that for the first time outperforms tape
drives and libraries in performance, reliability, scalability, ease of use
and functionality.
The Teralyte was designed with the SMB in
mind and for the first time offers an affordable and portable disk backup
solution. The Teralyte combines the speed of SATA disks with the portability
of tape by using disk media for both backup and offsite storage. The
Teralyte attaches directly to your server or backup server and allows you to
quickly backup your data to removable disk. These disks can then be left in
the system for local storage or they can be physically removed, like a tape
for offsite storage and disaster recovery.
Teralyte uses non-proprietary hard drives
allowing SMB’s to use any capacity or manufacturer SATA disk as locally
attached removable disk backup media. Disk to disk backup is designed to
eliminate the problems associated with tape based backup. Teralyte makes
this a reality by using portable disk media and completely eliminating the
need for tape.
The Teralyte is available in three
configurations. Each unit comes with iBac Data
Protection Software, the Idealstor Disk Management
Utility and the rugged Idealstor Caddy. The Teralyte is designed to be
connected to individual servers or backup servers running Windows XP or
Windows 2003 Server. Each unit comes with a SATA2 controller with external
eSATA ports. The PCI controller is available for use on PCI-32, PCI-X or
PCI-Express slot on the host computer and can be low profile or standard
height. eSATA cables are included.
Note: The Teralyte is compatible with any major backup
software on the market designed to backup to disk. The Teralyte can backup
data from any OS. This is strictly a function of the remote agents that are
available from your backup software provider.
